Fare Hike (again…)
Had the provisional fare increases not been deferred, the minimum jeepney fare in Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog would have increased to P8 from P7.50 starting Wednesday.
The minimum fare for ordinary buses would have gone up to P9 from P8 while the fare for air-conditioned buses would have increased to P11.50 from P10.
For provincial routes, ordinary buses would have added P0.10 per kilometer and air-conditioned buses would have charged P0.25 more per kilometer.
The DoTC decision to defer an increase in public transport fares came amidst mounting public grumbling about the skyrocketing costs of basic commodities and services.
Another burden for us commuters….
A 50-centavo fare hike is still a big thing.
Come to think of it, the 50 centavos becomes 1 (one) Peso because of a
lame driver’s excuse — “Walang barya eh…” (trans. No loose coins for change)
On the other hand, others would say, “Ok lang yan, 50cents lang naman, tulong na yun sa driver…” (trans. It’s ok, it’s just 50cents anyway, it’s our help to the driver). Filipinos indeed have that kind of mentality. They are merciful and they think for the benefit of others even sacrificing themselves.
Though at times you may experience a free ride, it is not because you are special… it is because it is so happened that the driver just had his first trip and he doesn’t have any change for your 100-peso bill.
Practically and ethically, if we don’t want to tolerate those driver’s lame excuses, we should pay in exact amount. Our 50-centavo coin is not even rare at all. Fare hike is made to compensate for the increasing price of oil and basically everything and not to give drivers a kick back income, not being selfish but being fair and rightful.
Kaya hindi umuunlad ang Pilipinas ehh…
(trans. That is why Philippines never improve…)

wow a new site..! it looks neat. i like it..
wala na natira sa baon..:(
haay, yup a 50 centavo inc is a big thing coz our allowances remain the same. ill just get a bike. hehe.. i dont wanna use my car coz oil prices are so high as well. add up the parking price in my school which costs more than what malls would usually charge.. reaching more or less 120 pesos if i park for 1 whole day…
Hehe… to me P 0.50 means little because a lot of drivers don’t really give me back that change anyway.
