7 abusive cab drivers in Makati City, apprehended

In an article by published by GMA News last May 25, 2008, seven taxi drivers have been apprehended in Makati City for refusing to convey passengers and doing contracting services. This is the result of the city’s intensified approach against abusive cab drivers.

According to Makati Police Station Traffic Enforcement Branch (MSTEB) Chief Supt. Victor Loares, the said apprehensions are in accordance with Makati City Police’s “Oplan Isnaberong Tsuper” (trans. Operation Plan against snub drivers).

“Oplan Isnaberong Tsuper” is the city’s answer to tons of complaints from the public against abusive taxi drivers. The apprehensions were undertaken along Gil Puyat Avenue corner EDSA-Bel-Air. Penalties for violators include confiscation of their licenses and issuance of Ordinance Violation Receipts with a 1000-peso fine.

On the other hand, Makati Mayor Jejomar C. Binay commended the efforts done by the Makati Police Station Traffic Enforcement Branch in apprehending the said abusive taxi drivers.

“We do not tolerate abusive practices of drivers in Makati. We contribute to the progress of our city and our nation when we all act as responsible and fair constituents. We hope to instill these values of responsibility and fairness in every constituent of Makati,” Binay said in an interview with GMA News.

Are you a “choosy” taxi rider?

There are many taxis to choose from when you are waiting for a ride. However, if you are that choosy, you will wait for a certain taxi company. As for me, I wait for those yellow-striped and green-striped taxis (companies can be R&E Taxi, EMP Taxi or Sturdy). Those green-striped taxi are from MGE company.

Since I am a taxi rider for 15 years, I find their service efficient compared to those white taxis who are not part of any company. Their meters are correct; the drivers are knowledgeable about the roads and places in Metro Manila. The drivers are not choosy about the place of destination except when their duty is about to end.

My only suggestion is that, their drivers should be properly groomed— hygienically speaking (as having short hair, neat clothes and a few needs to use deodorant). In spite of that, I still wait for these green-striped and yellow-striped taxis because it would mean less stress for me and I feel safe with them.

According to their drivers that I’ve talked to during a ride, 1000 units of taxi are plying all over Metro Manila during peak hours.

This post is Philippine-based.
